our philosophy

We fervently believe that our wine is made in the vineyard – we spend countless hours amongst our vines.

We strive for vineyard balance, within the vineyard itself, and all that surrounds and interacts with it throughout the yearly cycle. We farm sustainably.

We keep yields low by pruning, shoot and bunch thinning, but we are as equally consumed with canopy management, to ensure a balance of light and shade and ultimately, a constant filter of dappled light pervades the fruit zone.

We take a minimalist approach in the winery – our role is to encourage, not direct our wines through fermentation and maturation. We seek to make wines with structure and texture, as much as intensity, purity and complexity of flavours, to ensure they are readily enjoyed with food and adaptable with a wide range of dishes and have the capacity to age gracefully.

We neither fine nor filter our wine.

The H A L i F A X emblem is an original carving from Australian oak. The image captures both the strength and the fragility of the vine leaf...a vital link in wine's ultimate quality...and perhaps it is this strength and fragility which is the very essence of wine's enduring attraction.
